7 Days Unscripted Luxury Safari

7 Days Unscripted Luxury Safari

Your Highlights

This 7-day private luxury safari takes you to the northern frontier country of Samburu, through the Great Rift Valley and finally through the Masai Mara, home of the Big Five. Samburu and Aberdare are not as famous as Mara and Lake Nakuru but they are extraordinary as well. With this itinerary, we can show much more from the Kenyan wildlife and landscapes.

DAY 1: NAIROBI - SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Depart to Samburu at 7.00am. The scenic drive will take us through the lower slopes of Mount Kenya and across the equator. Our first major rest stop will be along the section where the equator line passes through. This is a great photographic opportunity to have and to show friends back home. We anticipate arriving for late lunch at Ashnil Samburu. After lunch, you will embark on a game drive in search of resident wildlife species like the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx, and the blue-necked Somali ostrich, all of which are rare elsewhere in the country. Dinner and your overnight stay are at the spectacular Ashnil Samburu Camp.
Meal plan: Lunch and diner.

DAY 2: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

Today you'll have a full day in Samburu, with an early morning and late afternoon game drive in search of the so-called "Special Five" or "Northern Five" that are only found in this region north of the equator. The "Special Five" include the Reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk and crocodiles in the Ewaso Nyiro River. In addition, over 365 species of birds have been identified in the sanctuaries. The reserve is also home to the big cats namely lion, leopard, and cheetah. It will be fun to note that the elephants exhibit a special reddish colour at Samburu from dust bathing in the red soil that is characteristic of Samburu. Did you also know that the Samburu skies offer the best opportunity for star gazing? A tour of the Samburu would not be complete without visiting an authentic Samburu Village. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Ashnil Samburu Camp.
Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, and diner.

DAY3: SAMBURU - OLPEJETA CONSERVANCY

Have an early morning game drive then return for breakfast. Depart Samburu to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, home to two of the world's last remaining northern white rhinos.
*Sudan passed away around March 2018 at the age of 45. He was unable to stand and suffered from a string of infections. He is survived by his daughter Najin and granddaughter Fatu. Suni who was Sudan's buddy passed away in 2014. They had been relocated from a zoo in the Czech Republic in 2009.
We will arrive in time for lunch at Sweetwaters Serena Camp located inside the conservancy, overlooking a water hole that is a centre of activity for some of the wildlife that come to quench their thirst. In the afternoon, have a game drive then visit  the Chimpanzee Sanctuary where we get to learn about their rescue stories as well as visit Baraka the black rhino. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Sweetwaters Serena Camp.
Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, and diner.

DAY 4: OLPEJETA - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK

Have breakfast and then depart the lodge for Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. You have a full afternoon game drive followed by dinner and your overnight stay at the lodge. Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingos and over 400 other species of birds that are also found there. The lake itself is a soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley. The sight of millions of flamingos is quite spectacular. From a distance, the lake appears ringed in pink. It has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species—particularly the Rothschild’s giraffe and the black and white rhino. Lion, waterbuck, buffalo and baboon are also all residents here. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Sarova Lion Hill Lodge.
Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, and diner

DAY 5: LAKE NAKURU - MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

After a delicious early morning breakfast, we will depart for the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. Our scenic drive through the Great Rift Valley spans from Syria to Mozambique is bound to be breathtaking. We anticipate arriving at Ashnil Luxury Camp in time for lunch. The luxury camp is located along the Mara River and is considered to be the best location for game viewing.. The wildlife sightings are numerous and may include lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, hippo, crocodile, wildebeest, zebra, plains game, black rhino, giraffe and various antelope species. The birdlife is prolific with over 450 different species. Excitement and pleasant wildlife surprises are plenty in the Mara. Don't forget to enjoy and take pictures of the one-of-a-kind mesmerizing evening sunset in Masai Mara. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Ashnil Mara Camp.
Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, and diner.

DAY 6: MAASAI NATIONAL RESERVE

Spend the full day exploring Masai Mara in search of the Big Five. You can also participate in an optional balloon safari for an extra cost of $450 US dollars per person. The Mara offers wildlife in such variety and abundance that is difficult to believe. Over 450 species of animals have been recorded here. You will easily see lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, warthogs, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, buffalo, leopards, elephants and many kinds of antelopes. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place: the great migration. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (in Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna—lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, jackals, hyenas and vultures. Dinner and your overnight stay are at Ashnil Mara Camp.
